“For there is no partiality with God”
Romans 2:11

God does not give consideration to someone simply because of their position, their wealth, their influence, their popularity or their appearance. None of the attributes with which the world may qualify you would ever qualify you with God. He favours all,...

Test the Spirits
Date: 26 Nov 2017

Some time ago I was invited by a church in Ohio, USA, to speak at their church’s anniversary celebration. Besides the invitation, my itinerary included several lectures at various universities. What caught my attention however, was a slogan “Catch the Spirit” blazoned on the front inside wall of the church. I enquired of the local pastor the meaning of the words. His reply was both unexpected and disingenuous. He said that he wanted the people of his church to be “more with it” and to catch the spirit of modernity and new trends. My response was not well received. I said that I thought the purpose of a Word-based preacher was to expose the spirit of the world, not to encourage people to catch it. Needless to say, and sadly, that man made me an enemy and tried everything to marginalise the influence of my teaching ministry. There is a subtle, devious spirit at work in churches today. Some have called it the “Zeitgheist,” the spirit of the age that is hell-bent on deceiving the Christian faithful. There is a spiritual war being waged and many good church goers are either unaware of it or too apathetic to expose it.

Ephesians 6:11-17 reminds us to put on the whole armour of God because we wrestle against wickedness and principalities of darkness. Pray for our ministers to be faithful to their calling. The Holy Spirit will never lead you away from truth but into truth (John 16:13). God’s Word, the Bible, is truth (John 17:14-17). May the Lord grant unto you the wisdom to test the spirits to see if they are of God (1 John 5:1).
